University Advice

This post is about my past experience at university for the first time, and I wanted to share with you some advice on my behave. Some of you may be confused as to what you want to do or unsure if university is for you, hopefully this will be a helpful post.

I was never sure of going to University, I had a rough plan to go work and have internships so I'd work my way up, but my tutors had incuraged me to sign up to university and see how I feel about it once I got offers, and I also had my parents on my back about going university so I felt like I HAD to go for them and everyone else, I ended up accepting the offer to go to University (in 2012) I had enjoyed the first couple of months, I had met some great people, and had a good experience at university but I always felt like I was home sick (well thats what I thought at the start) I thought oh once I come back from holiday in December I will be fine but I actually wasn't I felt so depressed that I ended up giving up going into classes and doing the work spent my times getting drunk with people and sleeping in and always going home on the weekends, I ended up on actually lying to my parents saying I had a week off when I actually didn't, cause I wanted to get away from it all, I ended up talking to my mum who had supported me in my decision to leave university, I had called up the current university to ask if I could get giving a chance to study at the university again since they had giving me an offer before, they ended up accepting me again to study in September, once I had everything sorted I went into university and spoke to my tutors in which they was really nice about the whole situation and was supportive, I ended up officially leaving University in May, I had the whole of 5 months of summer to take my mind of being stressed and not having to think about studies. It was a tough decision I had ever had to make even more telling my parents my decision which they have supported me all the way through. I'm now in University in my second semester and I am enjoying it, there is times that I get home sick and other times that I think is university actually for me? but it just me being home sick as I love it here, got a course that I am enjoying and I've met some great people.

What Im trying to say is its Your decision if You want to go to university or not, if you are unsure speak to someone at your school/college for advice or take a gap year so you can get an understanding on what you want to do, don't rush going to university because you think time is running out, its not! I've met quiet a few people who are over 20 who had a year or more out to work and have fun before starting university, you can go university at what ever age, don't rush it. There will be moments that you are home sick, and moments where you feel like you can't handle it remember that everyone is in the same boat as yourself, speak to someone it can either be your flat mates (who will actually feel the same way), tutors or student services they will be helpful and will give you advice on what ever you need. Don't just quit without getting advice, that is my biggest advice always talk to someone before making the decision of leaving. If you are unsure maybe stick it out for the first year, if you feel like at the end of the year its not for you, you can always transfer to a different course/university if quitting is something you don't want to do, theres so many options out there, as long as you know whats right for you. I will also recommend you going into Halls for your first year, as you won't feel so alone as you would in a shared housing accommodation for your first year, its best to go into halls as everyone is on the same boat as your self. Remember that you are doing this for yourself and not for anyone else, don't go because your tutors and parents told you to go like I did because you will end up regret that decision.

Hope this was helpful or gives you some advice on what to do if you are unsure or confused, if you need advice on anything it can be about anything just leave a comment and I will try and be as helpful as I can.
